The Johnny’s Bridal Dressmaking Process…

Johnny’s Bridal is one of the only dressmakers in Manhattan than has an onsite design studio and full production facilities to create each and ever garment for our brides. This is very unique to our company, because Johnny has experience and the understanding of the design, patterning, sewing, and production steps to ensure everything is done perfectly.

At Johnny’s Bridal, we have tailored our entire garment making process to make sure that it is custom designed and aimed to create bridal wear that matches your personality. Whether you have a unique body size, wedding theme and/or dream for that special day, our process allows us to create, alter and finish it for you at the most competitive prices, and in the shortest amount of time. The following is a walk through of our process and what you should expect.

· Design – This will be in the initial meeting. If you have a design or if you don’t we can sit with you and sketch out exactly what you want and need out of a garment.

· Fabric Selection – Depending on the type of gown you would like and your budget. We will sit with you through selecting the perfect fabrics for your dress that will fit your body the best.

· Pattern Making – Johnny is our pattern expert, therefore, we do not have to send these out to an external designer, but can have them completed onsite very easily.

· Draping

· Lay Out Fabric – Once the pattern is complete, the fabric is approved and we are ready to begin, Johnny will sit with the seamstress to layout the fabric to ensure there are no defects and there is enough to begin and finish.

· Cutting – We will begin the process by cutting the patterns and prepping the garment to be put together.

· Choosing Threads – We will be careful to make sure each thread is carefully selected to make sure it goes with and accents your garment in the best way.

· Sewing

· Cover Stitch – In this step we will utilize the parallel stitch machine to create a seamless hem for your dress.

· Hand Stitching & Embroidery – once the gown is completed, we will take the time to hand stitch the minor details to make your dress absolutely unique.

· Buttonhole Making – whether you want buttons down your back, or a hidden zipper, we will accommodate those needs in this step.

· Pressing or Steaming

A Bride’s Story…

What woman doesn’t want to look her very best on their wedding day? After all, on this special day, there are so many people to impress and it can be the most important day in a girl’s life as my mom has always told me.

So I did what many others like me do in the run-up to our wedding. Along with a group of my very best girlfriends, I set out on a Saturday on the hunt for the ultimate wedding dress. We went from boutique, to departments store and I found myself thinking, these are too expensive for what I am getting. But we continued on, one after another, but nothing, some were way too old-fashioned. One of my friends even suggested going for a mail order outfit. But that seemed too risky. After all, what if it didn’t fit?

But then another suggestion came. A family friend had suggested a custom dressmaker that we can go and meet. I figured if I was going to spend a whole bunch of money on a dress, I wanted to get exactly what I wanted. When we arrived in the Johnny’s Bridal design studio, I was already impressed.

Hanging in the corner of the room was a gorgeous elegant gown that was much more my taste.

Johnny and his staff who were so welcoming and knew exactly what would make me happy greeted me. After a bit of discussion, Johnny sketched me out a design of exactly what I imagined. I decided to go with the ice pink shade, not too loud yet not too demure and still very feminine. And it was simple which I wanted most of all. No long puffy train for me. All I wanted was an elegant princess like piece that could last forever. As we began the process, I was able to see my dress come to life with every meeting with Johnny’s Bridal… Most of all at my last fitting, when I put on the final creation, all my girlfriends just oohed and ahhed in appreciation at my choice. I could feel my excitement as pinned and finished the dress of my dreams – and my size – my cut and my look. Next thing I know it was completed steamed and bagged with soft tissue paper and I was now good to go. I knew my wedding day would be perfect… because I would look PERFECT.

And in case you were all wondering, my new husband was floored with excitement at how beautiful and sexy I looked to him. And lastly, my parents gave me their wholehearted approval.

At Johnny’s Bridal, we have often pondered over the fact of how the wedding dress became so important in a woman’s life? After a lot of introspection, I have come to a definite clear conclusion. The wedding day may perhaps be the most important day in a woman’s life and she wants to make sure she looks completely out of this world. It is her day and she wants to make it a memorable and a life changing one. This wedding dress will define her in a way on that auspicious day and she does not want to take any chances.

I have often wondered about what can become the perfect wedding dress. Just saying that it is a gown is not enough. Several questions pop up in my mind. What is the color that I should be going for? What should be the ideal cut? I guess it all depends on the bride and what inspires me about her special day and wedding. Since it is her day, she should be making most of the decisions and giving us the direction for her dream wedding dress. On the other hand, as her designer, I look forward to guiding her to the fabrics, pieces and items that will flatter her the most.

It should be something that flatters her figure and accentuate her features. It should have the ability to hide all potential flaws, places of concern and make her look like a perfect woman in every sense. The material or the fabric of the wedding dress is also very important. It should be something that you feel comfortable in and is able to carry off with confidence and panache. Most of all, the dress should be timeless… It should be a piece of artwork that can be passed along through generations. Overall all the dress should be a time capsule of the feelings and memories she experienced in the last year before becoming a WIFE.

Johnny Wu created Johnny’s Bridal after he recognized the need for custom, elegant bridal gowns that were easy to wear. The Wu family has a long history in the garment industry China and Johnny decided to take it to the next level by moving a portion of the business the United States in 2003 and now by entering the Bridal dressmaking business.

With over 40 years of design, patterning, and production experience personally, Johnny broke into the industry after a long journey of design education and building of his companies. Over the last 8 years since moving Johnny Wu Designs opened up their location in the US, the company has quickly advanced in the industry by servicing top high-end designers, fashion distributors and now the high-end bridal consumers. More notably, Johnny has assisted in the creation of a special dress for Beyonce Knowles and in decoration creation for one of Oprah Winfrey’s 2005 parties.

A Twist On Your Traditional Bridal Show…

Hello Bride-To-Be,

By now, you’ve been to 5 to 10 different bridal shows and events and I’m sure every company is starting to looks the exact same to you … Well at Johnny’s Bridal we put a TWIST on Your Traditional Bridal Show along with our partners at Oventz Event Planners by hosting an event called the “New York Connection Bridal Social”. On November 11, 2009, at the Affinia Dumont Manhattan Hotel we ventured to create a new way to show our gowns and introduce you to a unique way of selecting your bridal and bridesmaids gowns.

The show was held in the evening to make sure that all our working brides, grooms, wedding parties and families could attend the event. Once you walked it the room, it was a spectacle of a variety of wedding specialist in the booths, at their tables, spinning live music or walking around allowing you to sample their treats. This show featured every thing you will need in your wedding planning process from event coordinators (Oventz Event Planners), Live and DJ music, accessories designers, florist, beauty care specialist, photographers, videographers and much much more… But unlike the normal Bridal Dressmaker… Johnny’s Bridal decided to put a spin on the show by having our own real live Bride, Groom and Bridal party dressed for the occasion.

As a way to feature our gowns in a way where you can look at them on the rack, flip through our look book and see the live shape, feel and flow of our gowns, we knew this idea would be a big hit. With our wedding party geared and ready to have a fun night, we were able to showcase a variety of our gowns in our 2010 Bridal and Bridesmaid Collection, while still offering the brides to see their options for customization. Throughout the evening, we went through all the traditions of the wedding from the bride’s entrance, the formal photos, the throw of the bouquet to even the cake tasting to allow you to see how flexible, comfortable, elegant and beautiful your wedding day could be.
